THE PHILIPPINE-CUBAN FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY (PCFS) CONDEMNS TRUMP's JUNE 16, 2017 MEMORANDUM ON CUBA

The Philippine-Cuban Friendship Society (PCFS) vehemently condemns the new policy directive, entitled “National Security Presidential Memorandum”, signed by US President Donald Trump on June 16, 2017, aiming to sharpen US imperialism's subversive threats against the Cuban revolution.

Reversing the conciliatory tone towards Cuba of the Obama administration during its final term, the new Trump administration is again adopting coercive measures to rigorously enforce the US blockade laws –- an aggressive policy of economic war. Trump's memorandum is a vain attempt to cause economic difficulties (and even starvation) among the Cuban people, and thereby fan mass dissatisfaction and  rebellion against the Cuban government.

For almost 6 decades already, all forms of subversion and pressures have been exerted by US imperialism to try to weaken and strangle the Cuban revolution. However, all reactionary actions were nipped in the bud, or were appropriately suppressed by the Cuban people. The Cuban people's resistance against  all kinds of imperialist aggression have always been put to the test, and the Cuban people's unity with their revolutionary government has remained unshakable.

Contrary to Trump's blatant lies regarding the human rights situation in Cuba, the Cuban Revolution continues to dignify the Cuban people by ensuring all basic human rights such as the right to food security, free access to health and education services, and the opening of doors to all advancements in culture, sports and the further development of other fundamental rights.

The victory of the Cuban Revolution over the US-Batista-mafia dictatorship, and the construction of socialism in Cuba, are of great historical significance. Despite its own limitations, Cuba has contributed to the development of human rights, particularly in health and education, in many countries of the world. Despite its small territory and population, Cuba looms large in the international arena as the conscience of Latin America and of the world.

On the other hand, serious violations of human rights continue in the USA itself, where hate crimes, police brutalities, racial discriminations and deaths from the capitalist gun culture are rife, and where millions of unemployed people are living in poverty and homelessness. Of great concern also are the human rights violations committed by the USA in other countries, with its economic, political and military aggressions in many parts of the globe. The USA is the main threat to world peace and security.

The PCFS vigorously condemns the Trump administration's new attempt to interfere in Cuba. Socialist Cuba has the sovereign right to choose its own political, economic, social and cultural system, without outside interference in any form. The PCFS therefore calls on the international community, particularly the United Nations which has always condemned the USA' criminal blockade against Cuba, to strongly condemn Trump's latest policy directive against socialist Cuba.

Down with Trump and US imperialism ! Long live the Cuban Revolution !
