Unanimous clamour for an end to the blockade against Cuba on Jamaican territory.

Savanna-la-Mar, 19 October 2024. Convened by the Westmoreland chapter of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association (JCFA) an act of solidarity with our country took place. The Ambassador of Cuba in Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, representatives of the solidarity movement, graduates on the island, Cuban residents, local authorities and members of the medical and educational brigades working in this region were present.

During the interventions, the work developed by the Cuban cooperants since the 1970s was highlighted and the possibilities offered by the Antillean nation in terms of scholarships for higher education were thanked. The support of the Jamaican people in the battle waged by our country to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the USA was ratified, while the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of State sponsors of terrorism was denounced.

The Ambassador of Cuba, in his remarks to those present, expressed his gratitude for the expressions of brotherhood and solidarity. He explained the causes of the delicate energy situation that our country is currently experiencing. He also summarised the main effects of the genocidal policy of the blockade and the island's continued inclusion on the spurious and unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism in different sectors of the Cuban economy and health.
