Dear friends:
As has been widely disclosed, last Friday, on December 20th, more than half a million people representing the Cuban people staged a combative march, which crossed along the Havana's Malecón Avenue, in front of the United States Embassy. The just claim: to put an end to the criminal and genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade that they have maintained against Cuba for more than six decades, and that they remove us from the illegal and spurious list of countries supposedly promoting terrorism, in which we should never have been included.
This demonstration has shown to the world the stability of the Cuban nation, but also the social consensus and the popular support to the revolutionary Government, which guarantee the governability and courage by which the Cuban people defend their sovereignty, their just cause and their right to build the political system that they have sovereignly chosen.
In his words, prior to the beginning of the march, the President Miguel Díaz Canel said:
“This will be a march, yes, a very anti-imperialist! Against northamerican imperialism and its attempt to impose itself in Cuba by force or seduction, we will march now and always!
We do not profess the slightest feeling of hatred or animosity against the American people. We have all our respect towards the noble citizens of that country, and our hand is always extended to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.
It is the same hand that we have extended to all the governments of the United States, from the triumph of the Revolution until today, always in function of a serious, respectful relationship and on equal terms.
But if the United States persists in its determination to break our sovereignty, our independence, our socialism, it will only find rebellion and intransigence!
To every administration that has tried, the Cuban Revolution has survived, and so it will continue to be.”
And the Cuban President concluded his words: “We march now, in order to tell to the Government of the United States: Let the cuban people live in peace!”
It has been, without a doubt, a new demonstration of unity, courage, revolutionary conviction of an entire people and love for the Homeland.
