Harare, January 24, 2025- The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Organization today renewed support for Cuba in the face of President Donald Trump's decision to reinstate the Caribbean nation on the illegal and unjust list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
We, the Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust, stand in unwavering solidarity with the people of Cuba in these tumultuous times, with revealed and disturbing pattern of hypocrisy that undermines international law and the principles of self-determination and sovereignty.
The United States (US) has oscillated between announcing measures to ease its blockade of Cuba and then tightening such measures in a matter of days, the statement said.
This inconsistency, it adds, not only reflects a lack of genuine commitment to the promotion of peace and cooperation, but also serves as a tool for political manipulation, to the detriment of the people who have been blockaded for many years.
According to the Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust, Cuba has demonstrated resistance in the face of adversity, maintaining its sovereignty and independence despite external pressures.
The right to self-determination is enshrined in international law, the document states, urging governments, civil society organizations and people around the world to stand in solidarity against imperialist policies that seek to undermine the sovereignty of the West Indian island.
We reaffirm our commitment to support Cuba's struggle for freedom, peace and self-determination and call on the U.S. government to cease its hypocritical posturing and engage in a constructive dialogue with Havana based on mutual respect and understanding.
