President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez received this Sunday the Order of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Star, in recognition of the support that the Cuban State has given to the Greek Orthodox Church in the country.
The president attended the closing activities of the celebrations for the two decades of the consecration of the Holy Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas of Myra, during which the historic meeting between Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and the Most Holy Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was commemorated. He was received by the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia, Makarios, envoy of Patriarch Bartholomew to the commemorative days.
Representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Australia, the Holy Greek Orthodox Archbishopric of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean and the Regional Bishopric of Myrinis for Cuba and the entire Caribbean and members of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government of the capital participated.
Archbishop Makarios stressed that it is a recognition of the collaboration of the Revolution with the Patriarchate of Constantinople, by welcoming the temple for 20 years.
Díaz Canel thanked the Patriarchate of Constantinople for its historic position against the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Cuba and recalled the historic meeting between Fidel and His All Holiness Bartholomew.
