Kingston, 28 January 2025. Following Marti's maxim of ‘ to honour, honour’, members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica ‘Antonio Maceo’ (ACRJ), of the medical and educational brigades, and the Cuban diplomatic mission gathered at the Cuban Embassy to commemorate the 172nd anniversary of the birth of our National Hero José Martí. José Antonio Sánchez Vega, Chargé d'Affaires of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, accompanied the event.
The ceremony began with the laying of a floral offering at the base of the bust of Martí that guards the entrance to the diplomatic headquarters, as a well-deserved tribute to the most universal of Cubans.
Osvaldo Cárdenas, president of the ACRJ, analysed the Apostle's actions during the Fecund Truce and the call he made for the unity of Cubans living inside and outside the national territory.
In his words to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, reflected on the validity of Marti's preaching and his Latin Americanist and anti-imperialist ideology to confront the new imperial offensive that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of nations. It also signified the symbolism of the multitudinous March of the Torches that took place on the night of 27 January.
As part of the activity, the youngest members of the Embassy recited a poem of their authorship dedicated to the Apostle and Onelsis Tamayo, collaborator of the Educational Brigade interpreted the song ‘Homenaje a José Martí’ (Homage to José Martí) by Polo Montañez. The audience also enjoyed the fourth episode of the animated series ‘Martí between two empires’.
