This Monday, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, a high-level panel was held on the priority theme of the Commission for Social Development, entitled "Follow-up to the World Summit for Social Development", in the run up to the “World Social Summit” under the title “the Second World Summit for Social Development”.
Ambassador Daylenis Moreno Guerra, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, stated that our country is fully committed to the holding the Second World Summit for Social Development, to be held in Qatar, in November 2025.
At the same time, she said that this Summit represents a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the commitments made in the Copenhagen Declaration and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development, which remain fully relevant and valid 30 years later.
Moreno Guerra said that Cuba hopes that the process leading up to the Summit, facilitated by Morocco and Belgium, will have the real political will of all Member States to reach tangible agreements on social development for the benefit of our peoples.
She insisted that the Political Declaration to be adopted in Qatar should reaffirm the three social development pillars: poverty eradication, full and productive employment, and decent work for all and social inclusion, as well as emphasize their intertwining nature.
