Mr. President,
Presidential Decree 198, National Program for the Advancement of Women, summarizes the feelings and political will of the State and gives continuity to the advancement and progress of gender equality in the country.
Its coordination, at the highest level, evaluates the progress in gender issues and the compliance of agencies, institutions and organizations, which is one of the main tools for guaranteeing human rights and the progress of women.
Cuba has a National Group for the Implementation and Monitoring of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, coordinated by the Ministry of Economy and Planning, with the participation of 32 agencies, 5 organizations, 9 research centers and the Federation of Cuban Women, as a National Mechanism.
For its part, the National Assembly of People's Power, the Legislative Body of the Republic of Cuba, has a Standing Committee for Children, Young People and Equal Rights for Women, which pays special attention to issues related to gender equality and the advancement of women.
It systematically reviews, with the participation of local governments, the implementation of public policies such as the National Program for the Advancement of Women, the Comprehensive Strategy for Prevention and Attention to Gender Violence, the actions of the Policy for Attention to Demographic Dynamics, among others.
For their part, the agencies of the Central State Administration have gender strategies as a way of implementing the National Program for the Advancement of Women.
The Gender Chairs in universities, attached to the Center for Women's Studies of the Federation of Cuban Women, and the Observatory for Gender Equality are initiatives in the country that ensure the participation of all actors concerned in the promotion of a culture of equality and non-discrimination in society.
As part of the follow-up to this agenda, workshops are held each year with all the actors involved to evaluate progress, identify challenges and plan new actions that respond to women's demands.
