This Tuesday, in a respectful and fraternal atmosphere, a meeting was held between members of the Cuban and US Presbyterian delegations to the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The event, which took place at the headquarters of the Cuban Mission to the United Nations in New York City, began with a presentation by the Cuban delegation on the achievements of women's rights and opportunities in Cuba since the triumph of the Revolution, strengthened by the constant accompaniment of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) since its founding in 1960.
The representativeness and importance of Cuban women in all areas of the country's political, economic and social life was explained.
This was an appropriate context to explain to the visitors the difficulties faced by the Cuban people as a result of the prolonged economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, aggravated by the fact that Cuba remains on the unilateral and arbitrary list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
Rev. Jihyun Oh, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the Rev. Jimmie R. Hawkins, Director of the Office of Public Witness of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), were interested in learning about the impact of the blockade on the Cuban people, the government's policies for the care of the elderly, minors taken care by elderly people, and the exercise of religious freedom by women, especially in rural areas.
After the fruitful, where the Cuban side provided arguments that answered the concerns of the visitors, Jihyun Oh, on behalf of her delegation, thanked the Cuban Mission for its hospitality in hosting them at its headquarters and for the opportunity to hold this type of meeting, and offered a prayer for the people of Cuba.
