Helsinki, April 23, 2022.- For Carlos Alexander, a Cuban resident in Finland, the "I Foro de Cubanos del Sector de la Salud Residentes en el Exterior" it "was an excellent idea for those of us who want to contribute and help our homeland from abroad." The event, held this Wednesday at the Havana Convention Center, brought together more than 30 in-person participants and 360 guests, connected from more than 50 countries, including Canada, Italy, the United States, Germany, Serbia, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Finland.
During the opening of the forum, part of the 5th International Convention "Cuba-Salud 2025," the Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Dr. Néstor Marimón, described the event as "historic" and emphasized, "This is the first meeting we have held in the field of health with Cubans residing abroad, Cubans who help, who contribute to the country."
For his part, the Minister of Health, Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, emphasized the Cuban government's firm commitment to creating mechanisms for the participation of Cubans residing in other countries in national development, following up on the 4th Conference "The Nation and Emigration." The Minister emphasized the emotional and professional bond between the emigrants, while stating: "You, who have brought with you the knowledge acquired on this island and have multiplied your experience in other contexts, are here because you have not stopped looking toward your country with affection, pride, and the desire to contribute to its development."
That sentiment also reached the Alan Islands in Finland, despite the physical distance, where Carlos Alexander lived, what he considered a "beautiful experience in which many like him expressed their love for Cuba and their desire to help it." During this experience, ways to provide immediate and effective assistance were discussed. He concluded that it was an excellent experience that he hopes will continue to develop.
Carlos is one of the hundreds of Cubans living abroad who, motivated by their love for Cuba, use their own salaries to purchase supplies and medicines that are in short supply in hospitals and emergency rooms due to the intense limitations of the unjust US blockade, which has become increasingly harsher with the financial persecution against the island. To all these anonymous heroes, we say THANK YOU, on behalf of the hundreds of Cubans whose lives have been saved thanks to that love that keeps them close to the land of their birth, despite the physical distances from Cuba.
