Cuba awards scholarships to Kenyan students

Four Kenyan students were awarded scholarships to pursue medical studies in Cuba, symbolising the strong partnership between Kenya and Cuba in promoting healthcare and education.

In a gathering held at the Cuban Embassy, Cuban Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández   congratulated the selected Kenyan students and urged them to complete their studies with success.

“Through this valuable programme, the Government of Cuba has contributed  in the educational development of Kenyan students, through the provision of well-needed and appreciated undergraduate scholarships, primarily in Medicine and Health Sciences,” Cuban Ambassador said.

A long-standing, meaningful and mutually beneficial bond of friendship and cooperation has been shared between Kenya and Cuba for many years.

Over the past five decades, young people from other nations, mostly from low-income backgrounds, have been trained in Cuba. An important milestone on this regard was the creation in 1999 of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), an institution that has graduated 31,235 physicians from 122 countries.
