Cuba Calls for Maintaining its Commitment to the Pact for the Future and Prioritizing Initiatives of interest to the Global South

The United Nations General Assembly’s second informal interactive dialogue on the implementation of the Pact for the Future took place this Monday in New York.

During the event, Cuba's Ambassador and Chargé d'Affaires, a. i. to the United Nations, Yuri Ariel Gala López, reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to the principles of the document agreed on September 2024.

He also expressed Cuba's interest in learning about the progress made in implementing the Pact and proposed that the Secretary-General periodically report on the achievements made.

On the other hand, Ambassador Gala López said that certain actions of interest to developing countries should not be abandoned after the negotiations on the Pact for the Future conclude. "We note that the Secretary-General's proposal for the SDG Stimulus is no longer mentioned, even though it was presented as an appealing idea for the Global South," he said.

The Cuban representative requested more information about the UN Secretariat's actions on important issues, such as reforming the international financial system and addressing multilateral development banks and credit rating agencies. He recalled the Cuban delegation's request for a concrete roadmap to address these issues during the first dialogue of this series.
