The Hague, June 16, 2025. The Cuban Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Eva Yelina Silva Walker, attended an event organized by the Lower House/the Dutch Parliament, known as the Tweede Camera der Staten-Generaal, this Monday afternoon, along with the accredited diplomatic corps.
The event was attended by Martin Bosma, president of that legislative body, and a representation of members of the main parliamentary groups that comprise it (VVD, NCS, BBB, PVV, GL-PvdA).
On the occasion, the Cuban diplomat referred to the long-standing relations between Cuba and the Netherlands and highlighted the various areas of cooperation and exchange between the two countries.
Regarding the current situation in Cuba, Silva explained the US government's policy of maximum pressure against the island, the intensification of the blockade, applied to unprecedented levels, and the consequences for the daily lives of Cuban families and the country's economy. He referred to Cuba's inclusion on the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism and described the entire hostile policy of that government as illegal, unfair, and unjustified.
The House of Representatives is composed of 150 members, elected for four-year terms. Together with the Senate, it forms the States General, which holds legislative power in the Netherlands. Its functions include proposing laws and, together with the Senate, approving or rejecting them.
