Cuban Ambassador Meets with ILO Director-General

The Cuban Ambassador, Rodolfo Benítez Verson, held a productive meeting with the Director-General of the International Labor Organization, Gilbert F. Houngbo.

The diplomat reiterated Cuba's support for the work of this important organization that defends workers' interests, particularly Cuba's commitment to decent work and social justice.

He thanked the ILO for the annual response it sends to the United Nations Secretary-General, providing information on the impact of the US embargo on Cuban workers and families.

The Director-General, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the support Cuba offers the ILO in its various working committees and highlighted the existing cooperative relationship between Cuba and the Regional Office for Mexico and the Caribbean, which could be expanded.

The two officials reviewed the international situation, the multilateral system, and the impact it has had on workers.

The ILO's expanded technical assistance was evaluated on issues such as updating the labor regulatory framework in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the exchange of technical and good practices on youth employment, the informal economy, and the digital transformation of work, among other topics.
