Abuja, August 12, 2025 — As part of the festivities marking International Youth Day, the Ambassador of Cuba to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, took part in an official ceremony held in the Nigerian capital. The event was attended by the Honourable Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Youth and Development of Nigeria, accompanied by youth representatives from various government institutions.
In her address, the Cuban Ambassador underscored the vital importance of youth as a driving force for change, social transformation, and the building of a fairer future. She highlighted the values that distinguish Cuban youth: solidarity, collective commitment, creativity, and resilience.
The Third Secretary of the Embassy, Ana Flavia Gomez Pavot, also delivered remarks that faithfully reflected these values, acting with great poise as a true representative of Cuban youth. Her words evoked the spirit of unity, innovation, and hope that characterises the new generations of both countries, and encouraged the strengthening of international cooperation ties.
During the event, Minister Ayodele Olawande emphasised the need to create participatory spaces where young people can express their ideas and actively contribute to national development. As a committed leader, Olawande has spearheaded a range of initiatives focused on skills development, entrepreneurship, and youth integration, reinforcing his vision of an empowered youth as a pillar of socio-economic progress.
Finally, the event highlighted the fundamental role of youth in shaping a new global landscape in the 21st century. It underscored how young people are a transformative force—bearers of innovation, social awareness, and the determination to tackle universal challenges such as climate change, inequality, and inclusive governance. In this sense, a call was made for international cooperation, cultural exchange, and the promotion of policies that strengthen youth leadership in response to the demands of an interconnected and constantly evolving world.
