"We will always condemn the inhumane US blockade. What Cuba has done for the oppressed of the world is extraordinary, without expecting anything in return. We have common values that unite our people," said Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, Speaker of the Namibian National Assembly, during a fruitful exchange with Ambassador Sergio Vigoa de la Uz.
During the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of Parliament, the diplomat expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the Namibian National Assembly for the Cuban people's cause in favor of lifting the US blockade against the island and removing it from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
Vigoa de la Uz explained to the parliamentarian that the High-Level Segment of the United Nations General Assembly will take place in the coming days, where the heads of delegations will address this issue. The vote on the resolution against the blockade, which our country will present, will take place in October.
The member of the Political Bureau and Central Committee of the SWAPO Party, also explained to the Cuban ambassador Namibia's unwavering position on Cuba's side and explained that the Assembly will create the new Namibia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, a forum that has been very active in solidarity actions with Cuba. She also expressed her willingness to work on drafting a motion in favor of Cuba for parliamentary approval before the UN vote.
"We will continue to denounce the injustice committed against Cuba. This injustice violates the values we hold dear: human rights, international law, international multilateralism, and the right to sovereignty," she said.
The ambassador told Saara about the excellent results of the visit to Cuba by Peter Katjavivi, the speaker who preceded her in the Assembly, during which a cooperation agreement was signed between the two parliaments. The speaker confirmed the need to honor the agreement and work to strengthen exchanges between the two parliaments.
During the exchange, Vigoa de la Uz brought up the invitation extended to her by the president of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández, to visit Cuba. The parliamentarian responded that she would be very pleased to be in our country again and contribute to actions that strengthen the brotherhood that distinguishes us.
"All of Africa must remain united with Cuba and advocate for its sovereignty. In the Namibian National Assembly, support for the Cuban cause is unanimous, and it will continue to be so because we have much to thank the Cuban people and government for," she concluded.
