I had the pleasure of attending last night's tribute to Federico García Lorca and Odysseas Elytis as a guest. The event took place within the framework of the Mediterranean Poetry Festival, organized by the Instituto Cervantes and the Elytis House-Museum, in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy.
The moving event began with speeches by the Greek Minister of Culture, Ms. Lina Mendoni, the Spanish Ambassador, H.E. Jorge Domecq Fernández de Bobadilla, and the Director of the Instituto Cervantes, Mr. Luis García Montero, who addressed highlights of the extraordinary work of both poets.
A concert was offered with works based on the poetry of Lorca and Elytis, with music by the well-known composers Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Giorgos Kouroupou, Alexandra Papastefanou, and also Federico García Lorca.
