Grenada's Prime Minister Calls for an End to Sanctions on Cuba

Saint George, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) Grenada's Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell, criticized the U.S. blockade of Cuba today, arguing that it punishes the island and weakens global collaboration.

Addressing the United Nations plenary session, Mitchell called on the United States to eliminate the barriers that exclude Cuba from regional life and emphasized the importance of international solidarity for educational development.

The Grenadian leader emphasized that progress in this area "thrives when nations show solidarity with each other around the world" and cited as an example the aid his country has received from a diverse range of nations, including Cuba.

“It is regrettable,” Mitchell stated, “that at a time when we should be expanding cooperation, restrictive measures continue to weaken international collaboration and punish countries like Cuba that have sought to realize the promise of education.”

The Prime Minister concluded his remarks with a message of hope and a call to action. “Grenada hopes, for the sake of the Cuban people and the good of our region, that greater steps will be taken to achieve Cuba's greater participation in the social and economic life of our hemisphere.”

Grenada's position reflects the prevailing consensus in the Caribbean region, which advocates for further normalization of relations with Cuba and its full inclusion in hemispheric forums.
