Denunciation of the Blockade Against Cuba in Norway

Oslo, October 21, 2025. The denunciation of the US blockade against Cuba was among the main components of the event held in this city to pay tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara, organized by the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association.

Addressing those present, the Ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, pointed out that the blockade causes extraordinary harm to the Cuban people. She quoted the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, when he recently stated that it is impossible to quantify, to express in numbers or in figures, the emotional damage, the anguish, the suffering, the deprivation, the shortages that the blockade generates in the Cuban family. Its impact on the economy is also enormous, constituting the main obstacle to its growth and development, she added.

The diplomat commented that on October 28 and 29, the UN General Assembly will consider, for the thirty-third time, the draft resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba." She expressed confidence that the text, once again, will enjoy the support of the overwhelming majority of the international community.

In her remarks, Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera, from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), also referred to the damage caused by the blockade and its negative impact on all sectors of the country's economy, as well as on the well-being and living conditions of the people.

In taking the floor, the Palestinian ambassador, Marie Antoinette Sedin, expressed solidarity with Cuba and its fight for the lifting of the blockade. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
