Kuala Lumpur, November 12, 2025. The Ambassador of Cuba, Yadira Ledesma Hernández, participated in a productive exchange session at the Malaysian Parliament, organized for Heads of Mission by the Special Select Committee on Women, Children and Community Development.
Also present were the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Her Excellency Nancy Shukri; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, His Excellency Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Johari bin Abdul; the Chairwoman of the Special Select Committee on Women, Children and Community Development, Her Excellency Puan Yeo Bee Yin; and the Honorable Members of the Malaysian Parliament representing the regions of Kelantan, Sabah, Sarawak, Perak, Melaka, Pinang, Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, and Selangor: His Excellency Tuan Zakri bin Hassan, His Excellency Dato' Haji Shamshulkahar bin Mohd Deli, and His Excellency [Name Missing]. Dr. Hajah Halimah binti Ali, H.E. Puan Syerleena binti Abdul Raashid, H.E. Datuk Hajah Siti Aminah binti Aching, H.E. Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati binti Haji Samsudin, H.E. Dato Hajah Mumtaz binti MD Nawi, H.E. YB Tuan Zakri bin Hassan, H.E. YB Dato' Ngeh Koo Ham, H.E. YB Puan Teresa Kok Suh Sim, among others.
The meeting aimed to strengthen relations between members of the Malaysian parliament and the diplomatic community, as well as to create a platform for an exchange that fosters the development and empowerment of women, and the promotion of gender-responsive policies.
The occasion was a good opportunity to exchange national experiences in this area, in which the participants learned about the active participation of Cuban women in different spheres of our society, and expressed admiration for the significant female representation in the Cuban Parliament, where 56.71% of its members are women.
