Abuja, January 6, 2026. — The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, received the Vice Chancellor of Hensard University, Professor Sudhakar Kota, accompanied by members of his academic and administrative staff, as well as the Director of International Cooperation of the Nigerian Ministry of Education, Ms. Mary Oludon.
During the cordial meeting, both sides exchanged views on the potential for developing academic cooperation and institutional exchange between Hensard University and various Cuban universities and institutions. The discussions were motivated by the broad international recognition of the excellent training, professionalism, and human qualities of Cuban doctors and professors, as well as Cuba’s solid experience in the training of highly qualified human resources in the education and health sectors. 
Hensard University, a higher education institution located in Bayelsa State, expressed its interest in establishing cooperation links that would contribute to strengthening its academic, research, and teaching capacities, for the benefit of Nigeria’s educational development.
For her part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria highlighted her country’s willingness to continue promoting South–South cooperation in the field of education and extended an official invitation to the Nigerian delegation to participate in the upcoming University 2026 Congress, to be held in Havana in February of this year, considered one of the region’s leading forums for academic and scientific exchange.
The meeting reaffirmed the mutual interest in advancing concrete collaboration initiatives that strengthen the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Cuba and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Also present on the Cuban side was the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot.
