Geneva, 27 February 2026 – In his updated report on the global human rights situation, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, today denounced before the Human Rights Council the negative effects of the aggressive escalation by the United States against Cuba, including the restrictions imposed on fuel supplies.
During his presentation, he underscored the humanitarian impact of these measures, referring in particular to their effects on cancer treatment for children and on care for pregnant women.
“Nothing can justify the suffocation of an entire population,” the High Commissioner emphasized, in reference to the criminal policy of the tightened blockade imposed on Cuba.
