Cuban ambassador to Sri Lanka presents Credentials

Colombo, February 24, 2026, The Ambassador of Cuba, Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, presented her credentials, which accredit her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
In the solemn ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat, the Cuban Ambassador conveyed the greetings of Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, reiterated the gratitude to Sri Lanka for its support against the United States' blockade and offered best wishes for the relationships between both nations, at the bilateral and multilateral arenas.
The diplomat commented the most recent aggressive escalation of the United States government against Cuba and highlighted the coincidence of the ceremony with the 131rst. Anniversary of the resumption of the independence wars of Cuba, in 1895, relevant date in the history, of special symbolism and testimony of the resistance, the patriotism and the revolutionary spirit of the Cuban people.
On his part, the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake warmly congratulated the Ambassador, invited her to work toguether with Sri Lanka to further strengthen bilateral relations and ratified the solidarity of his goverment y people with Cuba. 
Present at the ceremony were the Honorable Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka; Mr. Rohana Ambagolla, Chief of Protocol; and PhD N. S. Kumanayake, Secretary of the President.
Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Sri Lanka were stablished in 1959 and maintained uninterruptedly.
