Kingston, 13 April 2026. Last Friday, 10 April, members of the Cuban community residents in Jamaica celebrated International Spanish Language Day as part of the tenth graduation ceremony for the ‘English for Foreigners’ course at the Caribbean Training Institute for Languages. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, as well as the Heads of Mission from Colombia and Spain.
In her address to those present, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the importance of studying the language of Cervantes in an increasingly interconnected society and shared advice on how to better master the language. She also congratulated Martha Corbett Jackson, the programme’s founder, the teachers and the graduates on the achievements of an initiative which, on its third anniversary, has established itself as a platform for promoting Cuban culture and for professional and personal development.
As part of the event, teachers Mayrelis Marin, Yahenka Díaz, Ramona Cain and Marsha Robinson-Smith shared the outcomes of research into methods and initiatives for teaching Spanish in Jamaican schools.
