Cuba reaffirms at the UN urgency to stop escalation in Middle East and condemns heightened of US aggressiveness against our country.

New York, April 16, 2026 – Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, condemned at the UN General Assembly the US heightened aggressive policy against Cuba, including the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade as well as the coercive measures and threats of aggression against the island.

During the meeting on the use of the veto, the Cuban diplomat warned that such conduct is part of a logic of force that undermines the Charter of the United Nations and international law, with destabilizing effects at the global level.

In this context, Cuba condemned the aggression of the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran for violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity, resulting in civilian casualties and exacerbating instability in the Middle East.

Ambassador Soberón warned that this same hegemonic agenda is manifesting itself in the Western Hemisphere through doctrines that threaten regional stability and disregard the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

He reiterated that the blockade against Cuba, intensified by new measures aimed at preventing the supply of fuel, constitutes the longest-standing system of unilateral coercive measures ever applied against any nation, with severe impacts on the daily lives of the Cuban people, and denounced the fabrication of pretexts to justify this hostile policy against a country that poses no threat.

Cuba reiterated its call to halt aggressive rhetoric and the escalation of violence, and advocated for dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and the strengthening of multilateralism, urging the General Assembly and the Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security.
