Harare, April 17, 2026 – Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel-Bermúdez sent a congratulatory message to Zimbabwean President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa on the occasion of the African nation's Independence Day, April 18, 1980.
"On the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Zimbabwe, I extend our warmest congratulations," the message from the Head of State of the Caribbean island states.
Cuba recognizes the firmness with which the African country has defended its national sovereignty and values – the text adds – the cooperative ties we have developed.
President Díaz-Canel-Bermúdez reaffirmed his commitment to continue strengthening the historic bonds of friendship that unite both countries.
Likewise, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla congratulated Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amon Murwira on the same occasion.
"I extend my warmest congratulations and reaffirm our commitment to continue expanding our historic relations of cooperation and solidarity," the Cuban Foreign Minister told his Zimbabwean counterpart.
This coincides with the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations on April 20, just two days after Zimbabwe's declaration of independence in Harare.
The Cuban Ambassador, Her Excellency Susellys Pérez Mesa, also addressed these messages in the country's leading newspaper, The Herald.
