Mr. President,
The right to adequate housing continues to be a distant reality for hundreds of millions of people around the world.
Cuba has first-hand knowledge of the extraordinary challenge of guaranteeing this human right under the severe restrictions imposed by unilateral coercive measures.
The United States blockade against Cuba limits access to construction materials, efficient technologies, and international financing.
Between 2024 and 2025 alone, the impact of the blockade on the national housing construction programme amounted to more than 34 million dollars.
Cuba’s housing stock is severely affected by this situation.
We thank the sponsors for presenting draft resolution L.21, which addresses a relevant issue on the agenda of the Human Rights Council.
Cuba supports the adoption of the resolution by consensus, as well as the extension of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing.
Thank you.
