During the International Workers’ Day celebration in Grenada, held on the island of Carriacou, a resolution condemning the latest escalation of hostility by the U.S. government against Cuba was overwhelmingly approved. The pronouncement was part of the solidarity actions with the Greater Antilles that accompanied the workers’ day.
The resolution was presented by André Lewis, President of the Grenada Trade Union Council (GTUC), who emphasized that the text acknowledges the Cuban people’s resistance to decades of blockade—intensified in recent years—and to persistent threats of aggression.
The document highlights that, despite these difficulties, Cuba has consistently provided assistance to peoples around the world, including Grenada, in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and technical development. It was recalled that this cooperation has been decisive for the well-being of Grenadian society.
The resolution also recognizes the specific solidarity role played by the Greater Antilles in Grenada’s development, with contributions such as assistance in building the Maurice Bishop International Airport and the training of hundreds of doctors, engineers, and agricultural specialists.
The approved text reaffirms that Grenadian workers stand unwaveringly in solidarity with the Cuban people and demands the immediate lifting of the blockade, which they describe as unjust, illegal, and inhumane. The pronouncement also supports the solidarity campaign taking place from April 14 to May 14, aimed at raising funds and mobilizing material assistance to send to Cuba.
The event at which the resolution was approved was attended by Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, other union leaders, and government ministers of the small Caribbean nation.
