Mr. President,
Cuba has the honour to introduce draft resolution L.7, entitled “The Social Forum”, on behalf of the 43 co-sponsors.
The Social Forum is an open dialogue space that allows for respectful and constructive exchanges on issues related to economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to development.
It promotes the active participation of a wide range of organizations and representatives of civil society, as well as other stakeholders, who recognize it as an appropriate platform for their voices to be heard on an equal footing.
The Social Forum is not limited to the exchange of views. It is also designed to facilitate the development of concrete actions and the search for consensual solutions to human rights challenges.
Draft resolution L.7 proposes that the 2027 session of the Social Forum focus on achievements, challenges and good practices in the area of social protection for the realization of human rights, including the role of international cooperation and solidarity in this context.
Social protection constitutes an essential component of public policies to ensure the effective enjoyment of human rights, reduce poverty and inequalities, and promote social inclusion.
We are convinced that the 2027 Social Forum will contribute to enriching the debates of the Council and to the effective realization of all human rights.
On behalf of the co-sponsors, Cuba would like to express its appreciation in advance to the members of the Human Rights Council for their valuable support to draft resolution L.7 and we hope that it can be adopted by consensus.
Thank you.
