Koror, Palau, September 3, 2026.- On the sidelines of the 55th meeting of leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum, Cuban Ambassador Néstor Torres held a fruitful meeting with the Hon. Raynold B. Oilouch, Vice President of the Republic of Palau and Minister of Health and Human Services at the ministry's headquarters.
During the meeting, the Vice President expressed his deep gratitude for the scholarships granted by Cuba, which have enabled the training of local professionals currently working in the health sector. He also expressed a strong interest in maintaining and expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of medicine and sports.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he had received since his arrival in Palau and reiterated the Cuba’ firm commitment to continuing and strengthening collaboration with Palau. During the discussion, the current situation in Cuba was also addressed, with a detailed explanation of the national context and the challenges facing the country, which have been exacerbated by the intensification of the blockade and the energy embargo imposed by the U.S. government.
Palauan medical graduates from the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) also participated in the meeting. This exchange strengthens cooperative relations between the two nations, as they will commemorate more than a decade since the establishment of bilateral relations on September 26, 2026.
