Under the premises of the current cooperation agreement between the National Sports Council (NSC) of Barbados and Cubadeportes SA, another sport that has been outstanding with encouraging results is boxing, both female and male, in which the Cuban technician Felipe Álvarez Ramírez, has contributed with its work during five consecutive years, not only in the identification of talents in the schools programmed by the CND, but also with the Association of said sport to train and to follow up the athletes of the national teams that represent the country in international events.
In the events held inside and outside the island, the Barbadian athletes have dominated both tactical and physical technical level, getting almost total victories, especially those made in the Eastern Caribbean. In that sense, numerous competitions can be pointed out in Guyana, Saint Lucia, Martinique and Trinidad among others. However, the tournaments that have contributed medals in recent years are the following:
2016: The Caribbean Cup, Barbados: 17 medals between the men's and women's teams; of them 5 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze.
2017: In the events programmed by AIBA, an athlete was classified for the Pan-American Championship, which in turn qualified for the World Championship in Germany, losing in a closed match in medal discussion.
2017: The Creole Caribbean International Tournament, in Saint Lucia where more than 14 islands participated and Barbados was one of the guests, the Cuban coach led the national team and reached the First Place by Teams, obtaining medals for the 9 participating athletes, of them 7 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
At this time, hard work is being done to classify the largest number of fighters to the qualifying events for the Central American Games of 1918. The technician considers from his accumulated experience that if the match at international events was greater and if the realization of the training bases, which are the key to succeed in the Elite events, the current results would be superior.
