Cuban Ambassador in The Bahamas presents new opportunities for foreign investment in Cuba

THE BAHAMAS, January 31, 2016.- The Ambassador of Cuba in The Bahamas Ismara Vargas Walter,  attended as a special guest at a Round Table Conference for businessmen and private investors, held in the Caribbean country.

The meeting, held at the Lyford Cay Club and organized by the DELTEC group was part of interesting presentations on the investments made today in various fields of technology, robotics, space industry, as well as an update of the current world market situation and areas with high yield potential for private investors.

For its part, the Cuban ambassador offered the conference "New opportunities in Cuba," where exposed the foreign investments being made in our country, as an essential part of the updating of the Cuban economic model to revitalize our economy.

In his speech, the diplomat referred to the portfolio of opportunities of foreign investment in Cuba, the 12 sectors in which can invest now, the advantages and the favorable business environment that exists in our country from approval of Law No. 118 and its complementary regulations. Likewise, he insisted on explaining details about the Special Zone Development Mariel (ZEDM), a project to promote sustainable economic development by attracting foreign investment, technological innovation and industrial concentration, and at the same while ensuring the protection of the environment.

The ambassador marked as the main obstacle that still persists in the development of Cuba and the expansion of foreign investment, the embargo economic, commercial and financial  imposed by the US, despite the restoration of Diplomatic relations between the two countries. She stressed that there are interests for US companies, but the permanence of the blockade prevents insertion in the Cuban market. Also explained the legal framework governing foreign investment in Cuba and invited at companies to participate in the next International Fair of Havana FIHAV 2016.

Participated in this conference representatives of various companies of some countries like France, Canada, Germany, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, United States and the Bahamas, among others. The closing of the same was given by the words of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, the Hon. Perry G. Christie.
