 University of the Bahamas receives donation from the Cuban Book Institute

NASSAU, May 2nd, 2018. - The Provost of the University of The Bahamas, Dr. Linda A. Davis, received from the hands of the Ambassador of Cuba to The Bahamas, Ismara Vargas Walter, a donation of 14 titles of different Cuban authors sent by the Cuban Book Institute to be part of the University´s Literary Festival.

In the words of the Ambassador, she expressed great satisfaction in handing over to the institution the sample of books, which will serve as complementary readings in the existing educational programs. Also, taking into account that most of the works focus on the search for African roots and their contribution to the formation of Cuban identity and nationality, the diplomat referred to the pride of the Cuban people for their African heritage.

On the other hand, the Ambassador also referred to the 40th anniversary of the Cassinga Massacre, a fateful event that Cuba commemorates, based on the historical ties existing with the sister nations of Angola and Namibia and the impact of this genocidal act.

Also present at the meeting Vanesa Ortega Guerrero, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba in The Bahamas, Walteria Tucker-Rolle, Chair of Communication and Creative Arts; the University Librarian; as well as other officials of the University.
