Thailand and #Cuba strengthen parliamentary ties within the framework of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations

BANGKOK, May 4, 2018.- The Ambassador of #Cuba to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, held a meeting with the First Vice President of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) of the Kingdom of Thailand, Dr. Surachai Liengboonlertchai.

In the cordial exchange, which was also attended by the Chair of the NLA’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Bilaibhan Sampatisiri and the members of the Thailand-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, the good path of bilateral relations was ratified and a mutual will was reiterated to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Peoples and the National Assemblies of the two Nations.

Both sides highlighted the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to be marked on May 15th, 2018. It was valued as an excellent opportunity to highlight this anniversary, and to expand cooperation ties, the forthcoming visit to #Cuba, from May 12 to 17, of the NLA’s delegation headed by Dr. Bilaibhan Sampatisiri and integrated by the Ambassador of Thailand to #Cuba, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and members of the Thailand-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Historical exchanges held between the National Assemblies of Thailand and #Cuba were reviewed and the updating process of the Cuban economic and social development model was addressed.

The Cuban diplomat and the First Vice President of the NLA expressed satisfaction with the actions underway and the development potential of bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, public health, science, tourism, culture, sports and, especially, in the area of ​​biotechnological applications for the benefit of both Peoples. It was highlighted that the joint efforts in the medical-pharmaceutical production for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases, constitute an important contribution for the implementation of the Development Strategy 4.0 in Thailand, aimed at increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of its socioeconomic model.

The Ambassador of #Cuba thanked the First Vice President of the National Legislative Assembly, the government and people of Thailand, for the support of the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against #Cuba.
