Rotary Club of Kingston welcomes Cuban Ambassador

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, May 3, 2018.- The Rotary Club of Kingston welcomed the Ambassador, Ines Fors Fernandez, who offered a comprehensive presentation on Cuba.

The Cuban Ambassador hailed the historic ties between Jamaica and Cuba and conveyed an update on the current situation of Cuba,  its history, culture and efforts to continue advancing toward the social and economic goals.

She spoke of the outstanding achievements of Cuba including the good health-care system and being the first country to eliminate mother-to-child transfer of HIV. She also said that 52.3% of Cuba’s Parliament were women, the second highest in the world. With regards to the post-Castro era, she said that Cuba has earned the right to choose its own path, owing no debt to anyone. Change is inevitable, she said, and despite the challenges, she is convinced that Cuba is moving in the right direction.

Fors Fernandez ended by saying that Jamaica and Cuba should continue to embrace each other into the next generation.
