Cuba and Jamaica assess bilateral relations in the area of Health

KINGTSON, JAMAICA, June 7th, 2018.-  The Minister of Health of Jamaica, Dr. Christopher Tufton, received the Cuban Ambassador to this Caribbean nation, Ines Fors Fernandez.

During the cordial meeting, held at the Ministry of Health, both parts reviewed the situation of the bilateral relations, in particular, the cooperation in the area of Health. Likewise, the officials assessed the common efforts to identify new areas for collaboration for the benefit of the two peoples.

Minister Tufton reiterated the appreciation of his Government and people for the presence of more than two  hundred medical collaborators distributed all over Jamaica. 

The Minister also recalled his participation at the International Convention "Cuba-Health 2018" during which he could exchange with Cuban health authorities and learned from the strategies carried out by Cuba to continue strengthening the primary health care system. 

The Cuban Ambassador thanked for the words by Minister Tufton while explaining that to Cuba to guarantee the universal and free access to health care is encompased within the efforts by the Government to guarantee and protect  the fundamental human rights. 

The diplomat referred, likewise, that despite the evident economic and social damages provoked by the blockade imposed by the United States to the Cuban people for more than half a century, Cuba will continue offering its collaboration to sister nations and contributing to the betterment of their social indicators. 

The meeting was also attended by Hector Ferrer Mustelier, coordinator of the Cuban Medical Brigade, and officials from the Ministry of Health of Jamaica.
