The Hague, 06 June 2018. The Cuban mission in the Kingdom of the Netherlands received in the afternoon of June 6 a group of students and professors from the Leiden University of Medical Sciences (LUMC), who would visit Cuba in the upcoming month of October as part of the Global Health Cuba program, which they hold every year in our country.
During their visit to the diplomatic mission, they watched a presentation on the characteristics, pillars, structure and main results of the Cuban healthcare system, and its internationalist and supportive nature.
The students also learned about the limitations and obstacles posed by the unilateral policy of the commercial, financial and economic blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and how it affects the access to medication and technology essential for the treatment of numerous diseases.
Students were impressed by the achievements of Cuba in healthcare and were interested in learning details about its structure, the ways of admission to the universities of medical sciences, the strategies for the treatment of diseases such as cancer and heart diseases, primarry health care and the use of traditional medicine.
During the meeting, students also received informations, data and other elements that will be helpful in their upcoming trip to Cuba. The students promised to return to the diplomatic mission after their trip to Cuba to exchange on their experiences.
In the year 2017, another group of student from this university visited the mission to share their positivie experiences of their trip to Cuba and shared the results of their investigations on the primary healthcare ssytem in Cuba.
