Baseball game in Namibia to remember Andimba Toivo ya Toivo.

The Embassy of Cuba, the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association, the Cuban residents and collaborators organized a baseball game to honor the memory of the lost Namibian independence leader and Cuba's great friend Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, who passed away on June 9th, 2017 .

The game was attended by the daughters of the Namibian hero, who appreciated the gesture.

Toivo was one of the founders of the Ovamboland People's Organization, predecessor of SWAPO. For his independence activities he was imprisoned by the South African racist forces in Robben Island for 16 years. After his release, he held important positions in the Namibian government. At the time of his death, which occurred two days after the ending of the V Continental Conference of Solidarity with Cuba in Namibia, Toivo was the Patron of the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association.

Those present agreed that the best way to remember the Namibian hero is to continue working for the development of Namibia and Cuba and for the strengthening of the historic friendship between both countries.

The meeting also included a minute of silence in honor of the victims of the tragic plane crash in Havana last May.
