Georgetown, on August 15, 2018. At the Embassy of Cuba, a farewell ceremony was held today for 8 Guyanese students who travel to the largest of the Antilles to begin their studies in Medicine. On the Guyanese side, Reginald Brotherson, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Public Services and Ms. Soyinka Grogan, official of the Ministry of Education of Guyana, participated.
On the Cuban side, the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Cuba, Llanio Gonzalez, participated in this event, who in his speech expressed the willingness of the Cuban government to continue cooperating with Guyana training professionals, particularly in the health sector.
The Cuban diplomat also highlighted the unforgettable humanitarian legacy of our eternal Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, who in the 70s masterminded and founded this project of solidarity with the aim of expanding and improving health to the peoples of Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa , as well as in other countries of the world, dream that came true in 1999 with the creation of the International School of Medicine (ELAM).
Reginald Brotherson, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Public Services of Guyana, urged the new students to take advantage of the opportunity that the government of Cuba offers them and called upon them to be consistent with the discipline to follow during their stay in Cuba, as part of the exercise of professional ethics that a good doctor should practice.
Some officials of the Embassy and relatives of the students also participated in the event.
