The Hague, 10 October 2018. During the general debate of the 89th Session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the international organization, Soraya Alvarez, denounced that the application of unilateral measures and extraterritorial by the Government of the United States, by virtue of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed against Cuba for almost 60 years, and wich not only remains intact but has tightened over the years, are a violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, especially of its Article XI, in which it is established that all States Parties shall implememnt the provisions of the convention in a manner that avoids hampering the economic or technological development of States Parties and international cooperation in the field of chemical activities for purposes not prohibited under this Convention including the international exchange of scientific and technical information and chemicals and equipment for the production, processing or use of chemicals .
The diplomat recalled that this inhuman policy of the blockade against Cuba, a draft resolution entitlted: Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba will be submitted for the twenty-seventh consecutive time to the consideration of the General Assembly of the United Nations on October 31st.
