UGANDA, October 12, 2018.- The Right Honorable Pascal Nyabenda, President of the National Assembly of Burundi, received the Cuban Ambassador Antonio Luis Pubillones Izaguirre, on a courtesy call at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. The Ambassador paid a visit to that country between 8 and 11 October.
In an atmosphere of cordiality and camaraderie, Nyabenda and Pubillones examined the current state of parliamentary ties and expressed their willingness to work together to strengthen them in the future.
The meeting was propitious for the ambassador to offer the highest figure of the Burundian Parliament ample information on the process of popular consultation on the constitutional reform that takes place on the island at present, the steps that are taken towards the consolidation of the new model of economic and social development of Cuba and the forthcoming vote in the General Assembly of the United Nations on the Cuban resolution against the blockade. The Cuban diplomat also took the opportunity to reiterate the gratitude of the Cuban people and Government for the traditional support of Burundi for the Cuban resolution and other issues of interest to Cuba.
Nyabenda, meanwhile, highlighted Cuba's support to his country in the areas of health and education and other multilateral issues and assured that his country will maintain a favorable vote on the Cuban draft resolution to be considered and voted on October 31 at the General Assembly of the United Nations.
Both parties welcomed the occasion and the current state of bilateral relations and the historic bonds of friendship that unite our parliaments. (Embacuba Uganda)
