More than 900 people celebrated on Saturday, 5th January in Copenhagen the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Jointly, the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Danish-Cuban Association of Friendship was celebrated. The activity counted with the participation of Danes from different sectors, representatives of trade unions and communist parties, members of the Friendship’s Association and other friends of Cuba, as well as Cuban residents in Denmark.
The Ambassador of Cuba in Denmark, Yiliam Gómez Sardiñas, in her speech highlighted the greatness of the work made by the Cuban Revolution over these 60 years, whose international solidarity is a pride for the Cuban people. She thanked the permanent support of the Danish solidarity to Cuba in its fight against US blockade, and recognized their active role since 1960 when a group of young Danes integrated the International Labor Brigade that participated in the construction of the Camilo Cienfuegos School City, the first educational work built by the Cuban Revolution. She also paid tribute to the Cuban heroes who, with their one hundred and fifty-years struggle, made possible the revolutionary triumph in 1959.
As part of the celebration, a friendly match of boxing was made between Danish and Cuban boxers that attracted the attention of the public and was a sample of the existing friendship between both peoples. Cuban boxers Jorge Moiran Vinent and Kevin Hayler Brown Bazain, who were winners at the match, were invited by the Danish-Cuban Association of Friendship, and together with their coach Julio Lázaro Menaz Diaz they will develop a sports exchange program for two weeks with different Boxing Clubs in Denmark.
The cultural part of the activity involved a dancer from the Royal Ballet of Denmark, who performed choreography with a Cuban resident. In addition, Danish artists and a music band of Cuban residents in the Nordic country entertained the event. (Embacuba Dinamarca)
