The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples supports Referendum on the new Magna Carta of the Republic
As part of an unquestionable democratic exercise, the Cuban people participated in the discussion on the new Constitution of the Republic with the attendance of more than eight million people. The proposals of residents in Cuba amounted to 783 thousand 174, while Cubans living abroad added two thousand 125. After analyzing each of the proposals (modifications, additions, deletions and questions) 760 changes were made in the text, in 134 of the 224 existing articles, which represents 60%; it is proposed to eliminate 3 articles and keep 87 without modifications with respect to the previous project.
The new Magna Carta, enriched by the wisdom of the revolutionary people, in a transparent, free and truly democratic process, was approved on December 22, 2018 by the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament). The Cuban people are ready to vote in the referendum, on 24 February to ratify a resounding Yes the continuity of the Revolution, defending the achievements of socialism, international solidarity and the dignity revolutionary unity against imperialism. The chosen date symbolizes the continuity of our revolutionary process, reinitiated since 1895 by Martí, with the Necessary War.
ICAP, as part of the nation, participated in the popular discussion and now is prepared to give the Yes for the Constitution, a Yes for Cuba, a Yes for the teachings and the legacy of our Fidel. This historic referendum will ratify before the world the Yes of the Cuban people for its Revolution.
Cuba is renewed and strengthened every day in the face of imperialist threats. This Revolution that for 60 years has been accompanied by the Solidarity Movement with Cuba today has the support of more than two thousand organizations in 159 countries. People of good will from all continents have repeatedly expressed their admiration, recognition and respect for this colossal democratic exercise that the imperialist enemies try to attack with crude lies that attempt to hide the achievements of the Revolution.
