Cuba and the Bahamas: building musical bridges

Nassau, February 25, 2019. As part of the cultural exchange between Cuba and the Bahamas, the renowned Cuban artist, Eduardo Córdova Reyes, visited The Bahamas from February 20 to 25, 2019.

During his stay, the teacher and percussionist successfully completed a varied program that included master classes, workshops and interactive sessions in educational and cultural centers of this Caribbean nation. He stood out for his color and dynamism, the appointment with students and music teachers of South Haven Christian Academy. Cordova also conducted a workshop at the headquarters of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band of The Bahamas, renamed in the Caribbean region. The meeting concluded with a powerful fusion of Afro-Cuban touches and the Bahamian junkanoo, in which young and talented local musicians played the most distinctive music of the Antillean musical spectrum. The occasion was propitious to share details about the origin of Cuban music and its rhythmic essence.

As the culmination of the program, the artist starred in the "Cuban Night" at the headquarters of the Bahamas National Trust under the auspices of the East Rotary Club of Nassau and shared the stage with a local percussion group at the Junkanoo's First Music and Art Festival.

In these encounter, Córdova not only shone as a master of the drum, but also presented samples of his work as a plastic artist. His presence in this country allowed to raise admiration for Cuban culture and strengthen musical ties between both countries.
