In the theater of the Business School of the University of Ghana was made the official welcome by the Ministry of Health of Ghana to the group of 119 new Health professionals who completed their Medicine studies in Cuba.
In the Presidency of the activity were: the Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Alexander Kodwo Kom Abban; Mr. Kingsley Agyeman, Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat; Dr. Eli Atikpui; Registrar of the Ghana Medical and Dental Council; Ms. Betty Danso, Deputy Director of the Americas Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Dr. Hafez Adam Taher, Coordinator of the Collaboration with Cuba at the Ministry of Health. The Embassy of Cuba was represented by the Charg’e d’Affaires a.i, Julio César Sánchez.
The Ghanaian officials, after officially welcoming the country to the group of new doctors, who return to Ghana after seven years of study, in their interventions indicated that the newcomers have as their main task the preparation to successfully complete the examinations, established by the Medical and Dental College as a mandatory requirement for all professionals working in the national Health system. They also urged them to work in the place of the country where they are needed.
The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Cuba, in his speech paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, describing him as the architect of the medical collaboration between Cuba and Ghana, The Cuban diplomat highlighted that the ceremony of reception was made on the eve of the arrival of Fidel on his 93rd birthday, and in the year of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Ghana. He also emphasized the excellent teaching results of the new doctors in their student period, and urged them to work hard to face the immediate challenges.
The ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, and family members of the new doctors. Press media, such as the GTV and Metro TV television channels, and the Daily Graphic newspaper provided coverage to the activity.
