Kingston, Jamaica, 11 September 2019. In an emotional activity, the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Jamaica commemorated the Day of the Cuban Foreign Service Martyrs. This date marks the 39th anniversary of the assassination in New York City of the Cuban diplomat Félix García Rodríguez, an official of our mission to the UN, by members of the counterrevolutionary group Omega 7.

Chaired by Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández, Head of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, the activity included a symbolic call of the Martyrs of the Foreign Service, accompanied by dated images and a brief reminder of the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

In the minds and hearts of each staff members remain alive the words of our Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, at the closing ceremony of the Second Congress of the UJC, on April 4, 1972, when he declared:

“… Do they happen to think they will scare Cuban officials and Cuban revolutionaries? Do they think that they will achieve their purposes by perpetrating cowardly attacks of this kind? In this country there are plenty of people able to go anywhere, to take the risks that are required anywhere; in this country, for each one that falls, there are 10,000 people willing to assume that person’s duties.”
