CARICOM, Guyana and Cuba sign agreement on Cuba-CARICOM Day.


Guyana, December 8th, 2016. In the context of the 44th Anniversary of the CARICOM-Cuba Day, a Cooperation and Technical Assistance Agreement was signed between the Caribbean Community, Guyana and Cuba for the creation of a Center to stimulate the development of children, adolescents and young people with special educational needs associated with disabilities, at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the regional entity.

 

The signatories, the Secretary General of CARICOM, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque; Carl Barrington Greenidge, Chancellor of Guyana and Julio César González Marchante, Cuban Ambassador, recalled the recent physical disappearance of the Cuban Revolution Leader, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and his work for Caribbean unity and integration, recognizing that this agreement constitutes a practical expression of his legacy.

 

The Project focuses on the training of personnel to address disability in the region, a priority in the work agenda of the organization. The CARICOM Secretariat will coordinate actions among the Member countries of the entity that will be beneficiaries of the Center, Guyana will host it and Cuba will provide Technical Assistance with qualified and experienced personnel.

 

The occasion allowed reiterating the commitment of the parties to continue strengthening cooperation and integration for the benefit of the peoples of the Caribbean.
