Indonesia seeks to expand economic ties with Latin America

Jakarta, December 5th  - Cuba took part in the “Policy dialogue on  enhancing Indonesia and Latin America and the Caribbean relations” that was convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on December 3rd and 4th. Representatives  from the Embassies of the Latin American and Caribbean countries accredited in Jakarta participated, as well as from the Ministry of Commerce of Indonesia and of state-owned companies in the transport, aviation and naval industry sectors.

During the event,  were made  several presentations on the potential for trade between Latin America and Indonesia and a balance on the progress made in 2019 was launch.  The opening was made by Mr. Darianto Harsono, Director of America II of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, who invited those present to carry out an evaluation of the past Indonesia- Latin America and the Caribbean Business Forum (INA-LAC) and propose new ways of relating Indonesia to our region.

At the closing, Mr. Teuku Faizasyah, Acting Director of American and European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, recognized the value of the discussions held during the work sessions and reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to host a second INA -LAC Business Forum in 2020.

Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world with about 265 million habitants.  Its economy ranks 16th worldwide and 5th in the Asia region. Trade with the Latin American and Caribbean region represents only 2.1% of Indonesia's global exchange, so there are great possibilities for its expansion.
