Cambodia opposes blockade

The President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, Nin Saphon, received the Ambassador of Cuba in the Kingdom of Cambodia, Liurka Rodríguez Barrios, at the headquarters of the highest legislative body. At the meeting, the parliamentarian referred to the historical relations between Cambodia and Cuba, as well as the valuable contributions of the Caribbean Island to the development and training of human resources in the country of Southeast Asia. He said that it was a compromise for his nation to accompany Cuba in its noble battle for the end of the blockade.

Saphon remembered her visit to Havana, in November, where she participated in the Anti-Imperialist Solidarity Meeting, for Democracy and Against Neoliberalism, whose Final Declaration expressed the will of the more than one thousand attendees. He also referred to the bilateral agenda she held, with emphasis on meetings with executives of the National Assembly and the Cuban Institute of Friendships with Peoples.

The diplomat thanked Cambodia's invariable support for Cuban causes and acknowledged the participation of members of the parliamentary group in the different regional meetings of solidarity with Cuba. He expressed the wish that the parliamentary ties between both nations be increased, as in the rest of the spheres, with a view to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Havana and Phnom Penh in 2020.
