Board of ESBECAN Association visits Cuban embassy

Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne, González, received at the Embassy of Cuba a representation of the Board of Directors of the Association of Ghanaian Graduates in Cuba (ESBECAN), headed by its President, Musa Swallah.

The meeting served to ratify the commitment of graduates to the country they consider their second homeland, on the day commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Cuba. The Cuban diplomat thanked ESBECAN for its work in support of the work of the Diplomatic Mission and in the consolidation of the ties “people to people”.

The visit of the “cubanitos”, popular name by which the more than two thousand Ghanaians graduated in the Cuban classrooms are known, led to the meeting with a part of the Cuban workers' group of the Embassy, ​​and in which organizational aspects were addressed of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between Ghana and Cuba, on December 30. Common actions to be carried out in 2020 were outlined, emphasizing the role of graduates in Cuba in the battle against the blockade, and the importance of unity among the “cubanitos” was ratified.

ESBECAN's representation was also made up of: the Deputy Secretary-General, Basha Ligbi; the Coordinator of the Women's section, Lydia Kyerewaa Odame; the Treasurer, Philip Bentil Arthur; Executive member Patrick Sam. For the Cuban Embassy also participated in the meeting: the First Secretary, Julio César Sánchez; and the specialists, Raisa Burón Anglada, and Eulalia Cárdenas San Martín, respectively.
